Gun Control

The Gun Owners of America (GOA) organisation was created in 1975 to ‘preserve and defend the second amendment rights of gun owners’. They are an anti-gun control organisation and believe it is their right to protect themselves through the possession of fire arms. The GOA website provides information on why the second amendment should be upheld and also why there should be no gun control. Through multiple arguments they make a statement on how guns have effectively saved lives and are used in situations where self-defence is needed. However, the website chooses to ignore the statistics which provide an information on the fatalities and deaths that gun users have caused. ‘According to FBI statistics, 46,313 Americans were murdered with firearms during the time period of 2007 to 2011. To put this death-toll into perspective, this translates to an average of 9,263 murders per year, or 25 murders per day.’ -http://theprogressivecynic.com/debunking-right-wing-talking-points/refuting-gun-enthusiasts-anti-gun-control-arguments/
Whereas, The Coalition to Stop Gun Violence (CSGV) are a pro-gun control organisation that was founded in 1974, and seek ‘to secure freedom from gun violence through research, strategic engagement and effective policy advocacy.’ The CSGV website provides facts and figures which give an insight in to the gun issues in America, for example, 'Approximately 40% of gun sales are made without any background check'. This suggests that this 40% can contain previously convicted  criminals.
